In this article we interviewed the key role in ‘Shrek the Musical’. We asked Colton Farmer a variety of questions. Check it out below!
Are you excited to play the lead role in Shrek the Musical? “I am very excited to play the lead role in Shrek the Musical! This show has been such a blast to work on and I cannot wait for everyone to see it!”
Who has been your biggest inspiration? “Who has inspired me the most is a really difficult question to answer, because I have been inspired by so many supportive friends, family members, and teachers over the years. I think that the person who inspires me most would be my brother, as he is incredibly hard working and devoted to whatever he is doing, behaviors that I feel he helped instill into me.”
How long have you been in theater? “I have participated in theater here since my sophomore year (2021-2022), auditioning for the play ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ in November of 2021. I have since been involved in many other productions in some capacity.”
What are you most excited to do in Shrek the Musical? “I am most excited to get into full Shrek makeup for the first time and perform this awesome show!”
Do you have any hobbies other than theater? “I have many hobbies other than theater; I have been involved in band for 4 years, scholar’s bowl for 4 years, and chamber singers/choir for two years. I am also the current president of the AHS chapter of the National Honor Society. I love performing and fine arts, and I also take pride in volunteering and helping others and the community.”
What impact has theater had on your life? “Theatre has had a profound impact on my life. Prior to joining theater, I was an extremely shut in, shy person. Every day, I would go home and waste away watching TV and being extremely bored. Joining theater gave me something to fill my time with, allowed me to make so many new friends, and made me a more confident person”
Did you do any sort of theater roles in middle school? “I had absolutely ZERO roles in middle school or before, lacking any and all interest for singing or acting. My only knowledge of the drama department were the occasional productions I got to see with my class, and the one or two shows I went to see with my brother. This all changed after a few friends of mine auditioned for the AHS production of Mamma Mia! in the fall of 2021. After watching them in the show and hearing about the drama department from them, I decided to give it a shot and audition for the upcoming play, leading to today.”
