Ava Steven delivers some very exciting words about the girls track team. Ava is a junior this year, she has run on varsity since her freshman year. Ava runs the 400, the 4×400, and 200. Her 4×400 team took first the past 2 years at the KSHSAA Class 4A State Track meet.
First I asked her what are your thoughts on this season. Steven replied, “I am very excited, now that I am one of the leaders it feels like it means a little more.¨
When I asked Steven who her favorite coach was she laughed and excitedly said, “Coach Ryan and Coach Brethauer obviously, because they are very understanding and very flexible with your schedule, and allow good communication.”
Everyone always needs competition, it’s how we were made. As for Steven’s competition at practice she says, “Betsy Reichenberger always pushes me no matter what, she is always talking everyone up, and pushes all of us.”
As for Steven’s pre meet routine Steven told me that “I chew ice so I don´t puke, put my air pods in and listen to my pump up music, I always need a little Rihanna, and complete the warm up card we receive as athletes.”
Another question that I asked Steven is why this season means so much more than last season Steven said, “There is more pressure because I have to be a leader now, and I have to fill the spots we lost from the previous senior group.”
Lastly, I asked Steven if there was anything different on the team from last year Ava said, “Maddie Schrandt and Camryn Winter are gone, so we are going to have to step up and run our hearts out.”
Steven is very excited about this track season coming into her junior year. Ava is doing her best to stay in shape for track as it gets closer. She is very motivated to be a team leader and have a good year for her high school and community. As always we encourage all of you to come out and support our Andale Indians.
