Beyond the Books: The Colwich Library

Beyond+the+Books%3A+The+Colwich+Library

The director of the Colwich Library is Joanna Kraus. The Colwich Library has been in business since 1961. It was a small one room school house, but in 1989 it got moved into the newest building which is the same location they have now on Colwich Ave. The City of Colwich believes they’ve taken a giant step forward toward the new library. The Colwich Library’s mission is to have a positive impact on the quality of life of all citizens in the area by using their resources and cooperating with other information agencies across the state to satisfy the reading and information needs of the citizens.

Joanna Kraus, the director of the Colwich Library, has been working there for ten years. Kraus has four kids. Her kids are Jack, Alex, Hanna, and Will. They are 22, 20, 19, and 16. Kraus also has two other coworkers working with her. Those coworkers include Lynette Fleetwood and Chris Gage.  The three of them work together to plan all the events and make sure the town of Colwich has a reliable source of books and knowledge.

The Colwich library provides events for the people of Colwich very regularly. Kraus said that the events are based on the age group of the kids or if there is a theme for that week. Kraus said she often goes off what her own kids would’ve liked when they were little. The events are planned by the season or holidays. There are events all summer, and there is a weekly story time that she puts on for the kids. During the summer the Colwich Library has a summer reading program for the kids that want to get prizes and awards for reading books. That brings in around 300 kids in one summer.

If you’re looking for activities, books and more, the Colwich Library has a Facebook Page called “Colwich Community Library” found here: Colwich Library Facebook Page

Abbey McNeal
I am involved in volleyball, track and field, and SADD. I like how small the community is within Renwick and especially game days. This is my first year in Renwick Review. My favorite sports team is Nebraska Volleyball. The person who inspires me is Ally Batenhorst because she is my favorite outside and she is so talented.
