I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Rodd, who teaches Algebra and Geometry at Andale High school.
The first question that was asked was what have you learned since teaching at Andale. Mr Rodd replied, “I learned that teaching can be a challenge and its never ending, you go home and you’re still teaching, even on the weekends you’re thinking about what you’re gonna do next on Monday.”
Next I asked him what did you do job wise before working at AHS. He said, “I was a data analyst, did that for a year after graduating, got kind of bored so then I chose to do teaching.”
I then asked him what has been his greatest challenge so far from teaching. He stated that his greatest challenge would be coming up with new ideas, so it is not boring for the students. Another challenge he said was keeping track of the mainstream, like media that helps shape our world and how teaching should be taught nowadays rather than how it was taught in the past.
I asked Mr. Rodd how he feels teaching here. He replied, “It’s great, the students are great, I feel like if I taught in Wichita schools or other schools in general I probably wouldn’t be enjoying it as much, so it’s great to be here.”
When I asked Mr. Rodd what is the best thing about working at this school he smiled and said, “It’s probably the students and the administration, not every school has good students and not every school has administration that will back you if you need it.”
The last question that I asked him was what resources does he use to enhance his teaching. He replied, “I use a lot of online resources, like the standard Kahoot, Quizizz, Blooket, just to kind of give students a different view of how math is taught by someone else rather than me, I know I can get boring from time to time, so using outside resources helps.
