Mrs. Maury is a wonderful teacher and she helps students grow into the people that they are. Mrs. Maury creates differences in all of her students lives and she makes her classes very enjoyable/educational. She teaches world history and psychology. Maury graduated from Wichita State University. She has been working at Andale High School since 2013. Mrs. Maury was a preacher’s daughter and granddaughter. She always knew she wanted to become a teacher because she knew she wanted to help people in any way possible and make a difference in their lives. She is very social and loves to be around others.
Mrs. Maury is adventurous and loves to travel. If Maury was not a teacher she would be a traveling journalist or TV show host who travels. If she could travel anywhere in the world she would travel to Europe to tour all of the Medieval castles and cathedrals. She would bring her husband Doug and invite all of her children, though they would not find that appealing or fun. If she could choose her last meal she would choose a medium ribeye with garlic, sour cream mash potatoes and Texas Roadhouse rolls.
Maury doesn’t have a set and stone teaching technique. She always has a teaching plan but she likes trying new projects and ways to teach which requires her to wing it and hope for the best. The most valuable lessons she has learned in her teaching career are to always be kind to others and always be open to learn how to become a better person. Maury always tries to teach kindness in her classroom because kindness teaches many things. When a student is struggling in Maury’s class she always asks herself, “What can I change to help the student and how can I be better for them?” Maury will also initiate a conversation with the student to see where the student needs extra help. She is always trying to improve herself and her students.
If she could give any advice to students she would say to give yourself some grace, learn from your mistakes and don’t dwell on them, ask for forgiveness, and to allow yourself to be a human. Maury does not focus just on students’ weaknesses, but looks at both weaknesses and strengths to use their strengths and support them in their weaknesses. Maury believes we need a lot of good teachers in the world right now. She wants us to understand that a teaching career is hard but very rewarding. A good day at work for Maury would to know that her students were inspired and learned something new. Her favorite things about teaching are watching her students be successful and hoping to make a difference in their lives, and her least favorite thing is, of course, grading.
Though Mrs. Maury had a tougher time becoming a teacher in college with an infant and toddler, we are very grateful she stuck it through to be the most amazing teacher. While reading through this it is clear she wants to make a difference in her students’ lives, and she most certainly has. Mrs. Maury is a teacher no student could ever forget.
