I’m sure most of you know who Mr. Studer is or have been in one of his classes but do you really know him. Well starting off, this is Studer’s first year teaching at Andale but previously he taught at Wamego High School for one year. Studer went to Pratt High School where he graduated in 2018. Following high school Studer went to K-State where he earned his math secondary education degree. This summer Studer plans on completing his masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Emporia State.
Studer said he was inspired to start teaching because in school he was very good at math, and had very good teachers that influenced him to do the same for other students that his teachers did for him. Studer also stated that he was inspired by his high school math teacher Mr. Liggett “he made math bearable and I enjoyed going to class because of him” Studer stated. I asked Studer about some of the best things he has learned about teaching over the years and he stated “students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
This year in Mr. Studer’s class there has been some big projects students have worked on. First up there has been a plan your own vacation project where students had to plan out and budget there whole entire vacation, make an itinerary, expenses, calculate the percentages of how much of your budget was used on what and so many other things. Then students had to present their presentation in front of the class. Studer’s Geometry class had some fun projects as well, creating cross sections (pyramids), exponential growth, exponential decay, and many more. Some of you may be wondering what his favorite topic to teach is well, Studer stated his favorite thing to teach in the classroom is exponential growth and exponential decay and also 3-D solids with geometric figures.
Studer may just be your math teacher but he is even more than that Studer helps out with track at St. Mark’s Middle School. His favorite thing about coaching middle school track is watching the kids grow and improve in their events. Studer also coached baseball at Wamego for two years. We’re lucky to have Mr. Studer at AHS!
