Dwight D. Eisenhower presidential museum and library is located in Abilene, Kansas. It was decided to be located here because it is the location of Eisenhower’s childhood home. The museum owners have constructed a very interesting design of the place by actually including his boyhood home into the layout of the museum. The house was open publicly for tours in 1947 and they occupied it from 1898 to 1946 when Mrs. Eisenhower died. The museum has tried to keep it as close to normal as possible for the time period they lived there.
There is also a library on the campus which is dedicated to President Eisenhower. A presidential library is part of the national archives association, and the point of the library is to store and display all of his accomplishment and important documents. In total there is 15 presidential libraries throughout the United States.
There is also a museum on site for any important artifacts or objects from Eisenhower’s life. In total the campus has 26 million pages of historical papers, 335,000 important photographs, 768,000 feet of original motion picture film, and up to 70,000 artifacts. The museum is built out of Kansas limestone and was made possible by public funds.
There is also a visitors center on the campus where you can learn about the campus and the historical meaning of it. The visitors center is located on the site of Lincoln school where president Dwight D Eisenhower first enrolled in elementary school. There is also a gift shop inside of the visitors center. If anyone visits have fun and I hope you learn a lot about the Kansas president Dwight D. Eisenhower.
