Every summer around May players from 7th grade to 9th grade start practicing for the Twins River league. Every team plays ten games before the tournament and when the tournament comes around it is a single elimination. The losers go home and the winners advance.
In this year’s league the Andale and Garden Plain teams faced some new opponents such as Kingman and Chaparral. Even though the first Garden Plain team had never seen how either of the new teams played they had no worries and were very confident in facing them in week 2 and 4 of the season. They had come off with a tough win against Andale in week one and were prepared to face their next opponent.
The Garden Plain team was led by head coach Seth Pauly and assistant coach Brent Fisher. There were only 9 players on the team: Brant Long, Xavier Helten, Xander Grow, Easton Pauly, Simon Preston, Troy Albert, Ryker Grow, Theo Casper, and Kaiden Fisher.
Brant Long reflected on the season, “I’ve played baseball for five years and this season was the most fun and least stressful of all of them. I really enjoyed playing defense and pitching. Everyone was always very positive, and this season we went 8-1 which was the best record I’ve had with one of the best teams I’ve been a part of.”
