Scott Johnson has been a coach for about 9 years but this will be his first year with Andale Volleyball. He started as an assistant coach for his high school boy’s team at Santana High School, Santee, California after graduating college in 2013. He has a lot of experience with volleyball and has been coaching a girls club volleyball in Kansas since 2016 and started his own club in 2022.
Going from club ball to school ball can be a little different. Coach Scott said “In club we recruit players that we feel will best fit our organization. This is not based only on skill but commitment level, attitude, effort, communication, good teammate, etc. In high school, there’s no recruiting. Your players are who they are and you train and develop them to give the team the best possible chance of success. In terms of how I coach…I coach the high school team like I would an advanced club team.” The goals for this season are to get 100% from the athletes in these 4 categories: Effort, Attitude, Talk, Teammate. If you can excel at those 4 things, the winning will take care of itself.
Coach Scott is a flight Test Engineer at Textron Aviation. He likes to fly airplanes and go to concerts in his free time. When asking him what gets him through the day, he said, coffee.
This is Jenna Jamer first year as a volleyball coach. She has a lot of experience from her own athletic journey. Having played volleyball throughout high school and competing in club volleyball for six years! Jenna grew up in Cheney, KS before moving out to the Colwich area in 2012. Coach Jenna went to Cheney and St. Marks for elementary school and then graduated from Andale High School in 2020. She attended Hutchinson Community College where she got her Associates of Science and Associates of Science in Radio Logic Technology. She then received her Bachelor’s in Medical Imaging through Fort Hays State University. She is currently working at West Wichita Family Physicians as a radiology tech while also the Varsity Assistant coach for the Andale Volleyball team!
Coach Jenna said “I have always wanted to get into coaching volleyball due to my love for the sport. I have been fortunate enough to have been around many great coaches and mentors in my life and I am looking forward to being that person for these girls. Now, I think seeing each player improve everyday at practice and see that translate into a game is the most rewarding part of coaching. Being able to develop personal relationships with each player and then converting that into different coaching styles based on how they thrive has been one of my favorite parts so far. Coach Johnson, Coach Sohm, and Coach Bruce bring so much knowledge to the Andale Volleyball program and it has been a privilege to coach alongside them my first year of coaching.”.
The hardest part about being a volleyball coach to Jenna is finding a balance between home life and coaching. If she’s not training for her half marathon she’s watching the Bachelor or Keeping up with the Kardashians. A coffee from Dunkin gets here through the day. We’re so excited to have Jenna back in our gym and can’t wait for a great season!
