Garden Plain and Andale come together to form our cross country team. They have a total of 17 participants making up their team this year, three of them being Garden Plain students and fourteen being Andale students. The future of this cross country season looks bright with the results of the first cross country meet.
Cross country coach, Steve Rangel, has big goals for his team this season. “I have lots of goals, but my main one is to win the league this year. I also want to do well at regionals so we can make it to state and be able to represent our schools at a higher level.” State is a big accomplishment and a very competitive atmosphere, but Rangel has been preparing his team for it. They go through daily practices to get ready for meets. Rangel says, “Before meets we work on individual strengths of each runner so they can perform at their highest level.”
Senior cross country runner, Logan McKim, has been running cross country for 4 years. Just like his coach, he has high hopes for this year. McKim says, “My goals are to get a state medal and a 16.50 time.” McKim says that he is staying optimistic right now and just working hard everyday to reach his goals.
The cross country team has their next competition on September 19, at Buhler, starting at 9:00 a.m. Come down and support Garden Plain and Andale’s cross country team and watch all their hard work in action.
