It’s homecoming week! Andale has many traditions for this important fall event. There are numerous STUCO members to help get the school ready for this years upcoming homecoming. Elliot Dyer, president of STUCO, states, “We have different committees that we put people on. Me and two other girls are the president. We disperse the things that need to be done and check in to make sure it gets completed. We are very lucky to have such a great team planning and helping with activities.”
One of Andale’s traditions is Spirit Week! The STUCO members came up with five different themes for the students to wear for the week and show their school spirit. This year’s themes are pajama day, anything but a backpack day, student vs teacher (students dress as teachers, teachers dress as students), Adam Sandler day, and jersey day. On Thursday, the parade starts at 6pm on Main Street, followed by a hot dog feed after. It’s also been a tradition over the years to have a Powderpuff game. Powderpuff is where the senior and junior girls play flag football against each other. The junior boys have a choice of cheerleading or coaching and the senior boys have a special dance at halftime. “Dance team baby,” said Isaiah Wilson.
Friday is game day and coronation that evening. The school sets up a pep rally in the gym in the afternoon to hype everyone up. “They have a candidate trivia game and they will have some other students involved as well,” says Jocelyn Peltzer. The varsity football team plays Nickerson. Andale once beat this team 108-0. Before the game, the homecoming coronation will be at 6:40pm where the candidates will line up on the field. Maddi Lies and Ellison Blick will introduce the homecoming court and give a short prompt about each candidate. The previous winners will crown on the new homecoming King and Queen. This year’s boys candidates are: Cole Andree, Austin Baalmann, Ryan Brasser, Ethan Schrandt and Isaiah Wilson. This year’s girl candidates are: Emery Benson, Elliot Dyer, Taya Orth, Jocelyn Pelzer, and Lilah Rott. After the Nickerson game, their will be a tailgate, where everyone can hangout and eat food. We wish every candidate the best of luck and hope to see you on Friday!
