Isaiah Wilson has some strong and encouraging words for Andale wrestling fans. Wilson has a record of 43-10 with 32 pins in the last two years combined. Wilson fell short of a state championship last year placing second, but is looking to be a state champion this season.
First I asked Isaiah what the difference state means to him this year compared to last year. Wilson told me, ¨The pressure is on, that is all there is to it. Last year I wasn’t expected to do much at state, but this year I am expected to do better so there is a more pressure, and that is okay¨.
Then I asked him about his team and teammates this season. Wilson told me, ¨That his teammates and coaches are one of the key assets to Andale wrestling’s success”.
I then asked him who his sparring partner was. Wilson laughed and said,¨Owen Eck, Cody Engelbrecht, and Ian Aouad, I wouldn’t be where I am without them. They really push me to be great on and off the mat.¨
As for the team differences between this year and last, Wilson says, ¨We lost a lot of our high point scores at state, but we are still looking forward to this years state championship.¨
Lastly I asked him what he likes most about the team this year. Wilson replied ¨The brotherhood that comes with suffering together as a team, and knowing other people are there to help you.¨
Wilson sounds very excited about the remainder of his wrestling season as they move closer to the state tournament. The state tournament will take place at Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina on February 22nd through the 24th this year. We encourage anyone that can make it to come and support our Andale wrestlers as they try to win their 2nd state title in a row.
