Mr. Joly, a counselor and coach, plays a key role in Andale High School. As a teacher, football, and bowling coach, Mr. Joly embodies a unique blend of academic success and athletic skill. With a passion for both education and sports, he brings lots of knowledge and experience to both roles. Through his dedication, leadership, and commitment, Mr. Joly serves as a role model for the students at school as well as on the bowling lanes.
Mr. Joly has been at AHS for 9 years in total, he came here right after grad school. Also, he has been the bowling coach for the last 9 years. The past five, he has been the head coach. Mr. Joly started coaching bowling because he has always enjoyed the sport, along with playing it in his youth. Apart from bowling, he is also the football coach. Mr. Joly enjoys being the bowling coach because he thinks it is a different pace from football. He also gets to meet kids with different personalities. He stated, “I just really enjoy helping student-athletes reach their potentials and goals”.
The bowling season is around the beginning of the calendar year, starting in January. The teams gets to compete in the Big tournament called the Bishop Carroll Baker’s Invitational to start off the season. In this tournament, the teams are from 6A all the way to 1A schools. Mr. Joly says that this is his favorite part of the season, and that the environment at this tournament is great. He says the Bowling Center is always packed and it’s a great eye-opening opportunity for the kids at the start of the season.
To be a student-athlete, you have to be able to set goals for yourself. As a coach, Mr. Joly sets goals for the team as a whole, too. “The joy of the sport comes from all the preparation throughout the year(s) where bowlers can see the results unfold on the lanes”, is how Mr. Joly would describe success in the team. He also thinks that success should be both individual and through the team. As this team continues to grow, the team along with Mr. Joly are always working on raising the bar on expectations throughout the season. Mr. Joly plays an important role in guiding and developing athletes to reach their full potential and achieve success.
This season was remarkable for the bowling team. For the first time in our program’s history, the whole team was qualified for state. After all, the boy’s team were regional champions, and the girl’s team were the runner ups. Both teams also had top 5 finishes at state. Mr. Joly says that the kids have taken it upon themselves to participate and win at such a high level, which is one of the best moments of the year. In conclusion, Mr. Joly’s leadership and dedication has not only led to a successful season, but has left a lasting impact on his athletes.
