This December, the Garden Plain High School drama and music department are performing “Frozen the Musical” in the auditorium. They will have multiple performance dates and times for the musical.
Music Director, Brian Lavery, said that this musical has required a lot of hard work, time, and effort. He said, “Putting on a musical is a massive undertaking, it’s the reason we have so many different faculty members and guest adults working on stuff. For example, we’ve got costuming, sets, theater direction which includes the lights, the sounds, the special effects, tons of body microphones involved, fog if we can pull it off, and strobe lighting. We have all these crazy sets and things. We have rehearsals 3-5 nights a week and also Saturday rehearsals that parents have been helping out significantly with, and on Saturdays we are also doing building days.”
Lavery added more about the details and work going into the musical, “We get the cast and parents in and we just start building. I am excited that we could do such a large scale production as the first musical in the new auditorium. I am looking forward to having a combined theater program with the elementary kids and high school kids. We are making our own set pieces for the show. We are making Oaken’s Trading Post, Elsa’s castle, the ice cream cart for Olaf’s “In Summer” song, and the sleigh for Kristoff. We have tons of costumes, crazy lights, and some cool special effects. Our main supplier for the sets is Fisher Lumber which is wonderful because they deliver to us. For our costumes we use theater supply groups. We get a lot of our props from Amazon and lighting effects from specialty lighting stores. We’d like to give a shout out to both the GPHS Booster Club as well as the HSO at Garden Plain Elementary for all of their donations they’ve provided.”
Tickets for the performance will be $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens, military, and students. December 13 and 14 the performances begin at 7:30 pm and there are two shows on Sunday, December 15 at 2 pm and 6 pm.
