Andale/GP: Pros and Cons of The Merge

Picture this: A small school with big dreams but limited funds and athletes, struggling to field full teams for some of their athletics. On the other side, we have a neighboring school with the funds but a shortage of players. Enter the dynamic duo – Andale and Garden Plain high schools decided to team up to resolve this issue. Now they combine teams in four of the many sports they offer at both schools.

Positives

The merging of bowling, golf, softball, and baseball in Andale and Garden Plain offers athletes the chance to interact with new individuals and establish friendships. Softball and baseball teams are now up against tougher opponents from larger schools. Without this collaboration, both schools would be competing in a lower tier against less challenging adversaries. By uniting the talents of both schools, Andale and Garden Plain are able to field stronger teams and enhance their overall performance.

Negatives

Organizing practices, games, and transportation for a unified sports team presents challenges. Collaboration is necessary between schools to establish a schedule that caters to all students while promoting equal participation opportunities. Students must commute to practice locations instead of remaining on campus. Consequently, the combined teams are now recognized as Andale/GP as opposed to solely Andale or Garden Plain. This arrangement may lead to concerns among some individuals who feel that one school is receiving undue recognition for shared achievements on the team.

In conclusion, the merging of the teams was necessary for the continuation of these sports. Although challenges were faced during the process, the teams were able to overcome them. The athletes can now enjoy playing the sports while fostering new friendships and adapting to a different environment. With the combination of the teams, Garden Plain no longer needs to be concerned about lacking facilities for baseball and softball, and both schools don’t need to worry about lacking players.
