Here just recently I had the privilege of interviewing Andale’s Ag teacher, Hayley Mcginnis, on the FFA Awards Banquet that was held here recently on April 5th at Andale High School, in the auditorium. Mcginnish shared with me everything from the members and their roles in Andale’s FFA program to the awards each member received and the criteria each member had in order to get an award. This banquet celebrates the hard work and dedication of each of the FFA members.
Mrs. Mcginnis has worked hard to teach her students leadership, personal growth, and career success. Mcginnis says that some of his main goals she has for her members are for them to try to work to get their chapter degree and advance in the FFA field. Not only that, but she also says that her favorite part of the banquet is getting to watch her students walk on stage and get to see and acknowledge the students that have worked so hard for this moment. Although all of the FFA members have worked hard to help out in their community, they each got an award based on everything they’ve done so far.
The different awards handed out were: The Green hand Degree, is handed out to first-year FFA members. First-year
members have to have competed in at least one contest/event outside of our FFA chapter events. Next is the Chapter Degree, to earn this degree you have to have been involved in 2 AG classes and in FFA for 2 years. You also must compete in at least 1 FFA activity and have a SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) project. State Degree, another award handed out, requires 60 hours of community service, and you must be an officer of some sort. Finally, they must have an SAE project. Next up, is the Proficiency Award, which is based off of their SAE The Scholastic Award, is another awards given based upon good grades in school. Lastly an Honorary Chapter Degree, is handed out, which can go to either a staff member or a community member. Each student to receive one or more of these awards were:

This banquet was almost entirely put on by our FFA officers. The parents, however, also get to play a role by coming to support Andale FFA and their kids, by getting to watch them receive their own award/degree. The officers that ran the award banquet consists of: Jackson McCurry as president, Kylee Simon as vice president, Lucas Rohlman as secretary, Levi Rohlman as treasurer, Kaitlyn Suter as reporter, Brady Gorges as sentinal, Brock Lies as student advisor, and Allison Simon as historian. All of these members deserve a special thank you for putting this banquet on for the rest of our FFA chapter and the parents who came to watch and support. Also, special thanks to Mrs. Mcginnis and Mr. Smith who paid for everything to support this banquet. Overall, our FFA chapter had a great year and we are excited to see more to come in these following years.
